External characteristics
Male
Forewings: The forewing underside is black coloured, except for the yellow apical markings and the dorsal white band. The forewing upper side has the veins conspicuously blackened (Yata and Morishita, 1979). Hindwings The hindwing underside does not have darkened veins and the submarginal band is vestigial (Yata and Morishita, 1979).
Female
The forewing upper side of females is black, as well as on the underside. The hindwing is creamy-white, except for the marginal black border (Yata and Morishita, 1979).
