External characteristics
Male
Forewing length (mm): 19 - 23 (Yata, 1991) .
Forewings: The underside of both wings has black coloured borders, which are uniform in width (Yata and Morishita, 1979). Hindwings The hindwing underside has an indistinct series of submarginal spots (Yata and Morishita, 1979).
Female
Forewing length (mm): 19 - 23 (Yata, 1991).
The upper side wing surface has a milky white ground-colour. The inner margins of the black border are diffused (Yata and Morishita, 1979)
Subspecies and variation
Four subspecies are described. The black borders on the upper side wing surface are narrower in ssp. minuta. Some subspecies have a band-like subapical spot on the forewing underside. The female of ssp. trinens has a more diffused black border on the forewing upper side. Ssp. pseudoblanda has elongate wings and narrower black borders on the upper side wing surface (Yata and Morishita, 1979).
