MORPHOLOGY

External characteristics

Male
Forewing length (mm): 28 (Joicey and Talbot, 1916).
Forewings: The forewing upper side has a snow-white basal area. There are pink coloured subapical spots. The forewing underside has an ill-defined postdiscal band, crossed by the black veins. This postdiscal band is mostly broken up into spots above vein Cu2 . There is an orange subapical spot (Joicey and Talbot, 1922). Hindwings The hindwing has a postdiscal band, laved with light orange-yellow. There is a small discal spot, which can be white, cream or yellow coloured, or even be dusted with black. The typical stripe below the cell is absent in this species (Joicey and Talbot, 1922).

Female
Forewing length (mm):
 30 (Joicey and Talbot, 1916).
The females generally have a different underside wing surface than the males, by being darker with broader margins on both wings (D'Abrera, 1982). The forewing upper side is not dusted with black. The underside wing surface is similar to that of males (Joicey and Talbot, 1922).
