This Workshop is part of the "Butterflies of the South East Asian Islands project". The project brings together current knowledge about butterflies of the Malesian region (Malayan peninsula - New Guinea) on a website. A key aspect of species information is their distribution pattern. In order to create distribution patterns for all Malesian butterfly species, access to data stored in collections is essential. During the project the Southeast Asian butterfly collection at Naturalis will be digitized by volunteers. However, for a complete and better understanding of past and present distribution patterns, it is essential that data from as many other collections as possible can be included as well.
This workshop is intended to gather baseline information about Malesian butterfly species kept in collections in the Malesian region and elsewhere. The workshop is virtual and scheduled on two days: 4 and 9 May 2022. During the workshop, estimations will be made of the budget required to digitize Malesian butterfly species kept in collections in the Malesian region and elsewhere, using different scenarios. These scenarios, the budget required and funding possibilities will be discussed during the workshop.
