MORPHOLOGY

The descriptions below are on the genus level. For difference between the species we recommend to look at the pictures or look up the original species description.

External characteristics

Forewing length (mm): 18-22.

General morphology:
Antennae nearly half of length of forewing, apiculus constricted at commencement, right-angled, nudum 14-16 segments, half of which on the club. Forewing triangular, costa almost straight, termen slightly curved to almost straight, hind margin longer than termen. Hindwing, inner margin slightly longer than costa, termen seems a bit incurved above tornus, because tornus is slightly produced.

Wing coloration:

Upper side: Upper side forewing dark brown with at least two white hyaline discal spots, may be some tiny ones more, none or two tiny hyaline cell spots. Upper side hindwing dark, no markings.

Underside: Underside forewing as upper side, apart from secondary sexual characters, outer half may be paler. Underside hindwing as as upper side, may be paler in outer third.

Secondary sexual characters:

In all but one species the male has, on the upper side of the hindwing, a ‘paint brush’ correlated to a brand on a speculum on the underside of the forewing.
