MORPHOLOGY

External characteristics

Forewing length (mm): 23-29.

General morphology:
Antennae relatively short, one-third of length of forewing, with long club and long recurved acute apex. Forewing narrow, length of forewing about 2,5 times distance from tornus to front margin (in related genera like Burara and Hasora generally less than two times). Hindwing with tornus extended into a short tail, termen well indented above tornus.

Wing coloration:

Upper side: Upper side forewing brown with whitish semi-hyaline spots in spaces cua1 and cua2, and cell. In female spots larger than in male. Upper side hindwing plain brown, paler in basal half. 

Underside: Underside forewing as upper side, paler area along inner margin. Underside hindwing as upper side, darker in tornal area, surmounted by a whitish subtornal spot.

Secondary sexual characters:

 
Male hind tibiae furnished with an erectile tuft fitting into a double pouch at the end of the thorax.  

Species

 
Two species, extending from India to Japan, Australia and the Marquesas Islands. One species, B. exclamationis, is migratory.
