MORPHOLOGY

External characteristics

Forewing length (mm): 13-20.

General morphology:
Antennae not longer than half of length of forewing, apiculus hooked, nudum 16 segments. Forewing triangular, costa straight, termen slightly curved, particularly in female, to straight, hind margin as long as termen. Hindwing termen rounded, slightly protruding at tornus, inner margin slightly longer than costa.

Wing coloration:

Upper side: Upper side forewing dark brown with yellow/orange markings: a complete series of discal spot, more or less separated by dark veins, and a smaller or larger area in cell, which may extend to the base and along costa to about two-thirds. Upper side hindwing dark brown with series of yellow/orange discal spots, more or less separated by dark veins, cell spot present or absent. 

Underside: Underside similar to upper side, but generally with strong orange super-scaling.

Secondary sexual characters:

 
An unbroken discal stigma is present on the upper side of the forewing in all males.  

Species

 
At least 22 species, extending from India and Sri Lanka to S. China, Hainan, Taiwan, the Philippines, New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Australia.
