External characteristics

Forewing length (mm): 16-20.

General morphology:
Antennae much longer than half of length of forewing, apiculus obtuse, nudum 16 segments. Forewing triangular, costa almost straight, termen evenly curved to straight, hind margin longer than termen. Hindwing termen rounded, slightly produced at tornus, inner margin as long as costa.

Wing coloration:

Upper side: Upper side forewing dark brown to black, unmarked or with more or less complete discal spots which are usually yellow, but may be white, no spot in cell or at most a yellow dash. Upper side hindwing dark brown, plain or with white (rarely), pale yellow to orange discal spots, separated by dark veins. 

Underside: Underside similar to upper side, but in many species dusted with yellow or reddish super-scaling.
