External characteristics
Forewing length (mm): 18-25.
General morphology:
Antennae longer than half of length of forewing, apiculus hooked, nudum 16 segments. Forewing triangular, costa almost straight, termen almost straight to evenly curved (particularly so in female), hind margin as long as to slightly longer (particularly so in female) than termen. Hindwing termen rounded, tornus in male slightly produced, inner margin as long as or slightly longer than (particularly so in male) costa.
Wing coloration:
Upper side: Facies too varied for a general description. Generally, the color is brown to black in various shades, there are spotless species, species with part of their wings differently colored, many species with spots in different number, shape and color.
Underside: Secondary sexual characters – Most species have a stigma or brand on the upper side of the forewing.
