MORPHOLOGY

External characteristics

Forewing length (mm): 14-16.

General morphology:
Antennae longer than half of length of forewing, apiculus obtuse to hooked, nudum 16 segments. Forewing triangular, costa almost straight, termen evenly curved, hind margin longer than termen. Hindwing termen rounded, inner margin as long as or slightly longer than costa, tornus slightly produced.

Wing coloration:

Upper side: Upper side forewing dark brown with more or less complete series of yellow to orange discal spots, separated by dark veins, general with an orange area in the cell which may spread along the costa. Upper side hindwing dark brown with yellow to orange discal spots separated by dark veins; in most species no spot in cell

Underside: Underside forewing as upper side, but generally with orange or reddish super-scaling in apical half. Underside hindwing as spots as upper side, but the wing may be plain dark brown or, generally is more or less strongly overlaid by orange or reddish scales.

Secondary sexual characters:

 
In the male of some species there is a brand or stigma or both on the upper side of the forewing.
