MORPHOLOGY

External characteristics

Forewing length (mm): 25-30.

General morphology:
Antennae with long club and long recurved acute apex. Forewing triangular, termen slightly curved. Hindwing tornus almost rounded to well extended into a short tail, termen slightly to markedly indented above tornus.

Wing coloration:

Upper side: Upper side forewing unmarked black with strong greenish or bluish tinge in basal area; the color may extend to cover most of the wing. Upper side hindwing as upper side forewing; yellow or orange in tornal area which color more or less extends along termen and inner margin. 

Underside: Underside forewing as upper side, but broadly grey along inner margin; veins may be finely lined-out in black. Underside hindwing as upper side, but tornal orange or yellow more extensive and with black markings.

Secondary sexual characters:

 
Male hind tibiae furnished with an erectile tuft fitting into a double pouch at the end of the thorax as well as a recumbent hair pencil enclosed by a comb of dark hairs. In one species the male has brands between the veins on forewing and hindwing.  

Species

 
Probably over ten species, depending on how species limits are drawn. Extending from Sri Lanka and India though S. China to Japan, the Philippines and throughout southern Asia to New Guinea.
