MORPHOLOGY

External characteristics

Forewing length (mm): 17-25.

General morphology:
Antennae just or well over half of length costa of forewing, nudum not exceeding 16 segments. Forewing rather broad, hind margin just to well over length of termen, latter evenly curved. Hindwing rounded, inner margin as long as costa, in some species longer.

Wing coloration:

Upper side: Upper side forewing brownish to blackish, without or with whitish hyaline spots, not in cell. Upper side hindwing plain brown or white in tornal area, the white color may extend to cover over half of the wing, in which case there are black marginal spots. 

Underside: Underside forewing about as upper side. Underside hindwing largely white or bluish white except for the costal area and dark marginal spots.

Secondary sexual characters:

 
Male without secondary sexual characters, female with anal tuft.  

Species

 
Fifteen species of which three are confined to Africa, Madagascar and islands in the Indian Ocean. The twelve Asian species extend from India and China to Australia and the Solomon Islands; eleven species occur in the area covered here.
