External characteristics


Male 

Forewings: The upper side wing surface is creamy-white to pale yellow coloured. The underside wing surface lacks the black marginal border (Yata and Morishita, 1979). 

Female  
The forewing underside has a broad black band, which form an arc from the mid-costa to the tornus (Yata and Morishita, 1979).  

Subspecies and variation

 
Fifteen subspecies are described. Both sexes have a white and a yellow coloured form. Ssp. distanti has pale yellow colouration on the upper side wing surface. There are three female forms of ssp. erebina; the first form has bright yellow on both wings; the second one has bright yellow on the forewing and lemon-yellow colouration on the hindwing; the last one has lemon-yellow coloration on both wings. There are two female forms of the subspecies of Mindanao and Bazilan; the first form is yellow; the second one is bluish white. Ssp. nigerrima is larger than the nominate species and the female is darker. Ssp. has a bright orange-yellow wingsrface and the forewing costa is cream coloured, the marginal border in males is obsolete and broken in each space (Yata and Morishita, 1979).
