External characteristics
Male
Wingspan (mm): 51 (Grose Smith And Kirby, 1892).
The thorax is blue-ish and the head and abdomen are brown coloured above and mostly white coloured beneath. The antennae are black coloured and have narrow white rings (Grose Smith And Kirby, 1892).Forewings: The upper side wing surface is white, with the base smokey-grey. The forewing upper side is to the end of the upper part of the cell smokey-grey coloured. The subcostal nerve is dark brown coloured and broad above, but narrow below due to the indentations. The underside wing surface is silvery-white coloured and has the costa and the subcostal nerve mostly grey coloured. There is a brown coloured submarginal band, which ceases a little below the second submedian nerve. There is a whitish space before the apex and the upper half of the hind margin (Grose Smith And Kirby, 1892). Hindwings The hindwing upper side has a dark grey coloured border, which runs from the costa nearly to the anal angle (Grose Smith And Kirby, 1892).
