MORPHOLOGY


External characteristics


Male 
Forewing length (mm): 42-45. Wingspan (mm): 62.
Forewings: Upperside black, pale markings more or less semi hyaline, bluish or pale yellowish green, consisting of: strongly enlarged median spots from hind margin to vein 4, to which a similar spot in the basal half of the cell is attached, median spot in space 4, to which a similar spot in upper part the of cell is attached, median spot in space 5 to which a larger spot at the end of cell is attached, and two spots at apex; underside similar, but ground color paler, more dark brown, series of very indistinct submarginal spots visible Hindwings Crenulate, slender tail at end of vein 4; upperside outer third to half dark grayish, not sharply defined, basal 2/3 (except along inner margin) semi hyaline, bluish or pale yellowish green, outer third black with strong submarginal spots; underside ground color as underside forewing, as upperside, but ground color paler and with some indistinct red markings.

Female  
Similar to male.  

Subspecies and variation

 
Three subspecies have been distinguished, one of which is found in the Malaysian area (Sumatra only); of this subspecies no further variation has been described.
