MORPHOLOGY


External characteristics


Male 
Wingspan (mm): 60 - 65 (DBpedia, n.d.).
Forewings: The forewing has very clear markings (Pequin, 2021). The forewing upper side has an oblique, white coloured, broad band (Yata and Morishita, 1979). Hindwings The hindwing underside has a red coloured basal area and a broad black coloured median band, with a yellow coloured cell end spot in it. Further, there is a an outer series of conspicuous yellow coloured oval spots distal to the band. The hindiwng upper side has a yellow area which extends to the costa (Yata and Morishita, 1979).

Female  
The females generally have a different underside wing surface than the males, by being darker with broader margins on both wings (D'Abrera, 1982).  

Subspecies and variation

 
Three subspecies are described (Pequin, 2021).

Similar species

This species has a stockier shape of the wings than other species of the group pasithoe (Pequin, 2021). This species is similar to Delias pasithoe and Delias henningia, but the forewing apex is rounder (Yata and Morishita, 1979).
