Delias geraldina

MORPHOLOGY

External characteristics

Male
Wingspan (mm): 44.5 (Grose Smith And Kirby, 1892).
Forewings: The upper side wing surface is white. The distal area of the forewing upper side is black coloured and is narrowed to the tornus, with a slightly curved edge. The forewing underside is proximal two-third white, with a black-ish brown costal stripe. There is on the forewing underside a row of five small submarginal yellow spots (Pequin, 2021).  Hindwings The hindwing upper side has no margnial border, but rather a fine black line on the margin. The hindwing underside has a black-ish brown ground-colour, with sulphur-yellow markings. There is on the underside wing surface a white discal band, marked with six short yellow bars. Further, there is a yellow costal stripe, which reaches the base, and a row of six rounded submarginal spots, placed near the margin (Pequin, 2021).

Female
The females generally have a different underside wing surface than the males, by being darker with broader margins on both wings (D'Abrera, 1982). The upper side wing surface of females is similar to that of males, but with a yellow tinge. The black area of the forewing upper side is broader and the hindwing has a narrower black marginal border by females. The submarginal spots in the hindwing underside are orange and smaller by females (Pequin, 2021).
