External characteristics


Male 
Forewing length (mm): 30 (Kirton, 2018). Wingspan (mm): 58 - 74 (Bingham, 1907).
Forewings: The underside wing surface has obsucre markings, the stripes along the veins lack or vestigal. The forewing upper side has the median veins of the cell not darkened (Yata and Morishita, 1979). The forewing underside is largely dark-dusted white (Kirton, 2018). Hindwings The discal streak on the hindwing underside is yellow (D'Abrera, 1982). The hindwing underside has a wide black coloured submarginal band (Yata and Morishita, 1979). The hindwing underside is deep orange coloured and the veins are dark-dusted (Kirton, 2018).

Female  Wingspan (mm):58 - 74 (Bingham, 1907).
The discal streak on the hindwing underside is white (D'Abrera, 1982). The upper side wing surface has the discal portion oval shaped and white coloured and the veins are not darkened (Yata and Morishita, 1979).  

Subspecies and variation

 
The upper side wing surface is pearly white coloured, with the adjacent parts of the wing as well as the body in a faint greenish tinge. The forewing has the costal margin dusky and there is a large subtriangular black-ish brown coloured apical patch, which reaches from the middle of the costa to the outer angle. The hindwing has a black-ish brown coloured border, which does not reach the anal angle. The forewing underside is similar to the upper side, has an ochre-yellow coloured base and a small cinnabar-red coloured elongated patch. The hindwings are entirely black-brown coloured, with the base tinged with an ochreous-yellow colour (Wallace, 1867).
