MORPHOLOGY

External characteristics

Male 
Forewing length (mm): 33 - 35 (Otsuka, Kazuhisa, 2001). Wingspan (mm): 76 (Feltwell, 1993).
Forewings: The upper side wing surface is yellow coloured. The forewing upper side has a prominent orange coloured band (Otsuka, Kazuhisa, 2001). Hindwings The hindwing upper side has a black coloured border, which is inwardly clear-edged and concaved in each space (Yata and Morishita, 1979).

Female  Wingspan (mm):76 (Feltwell, 1993).
The males and females are unlike each other. The hindwing underside has a basal half which is uniformly yellow coloured (Yata and Morishita, 1979). The upper side wing surface is white coloured. The hindwing has a distinct black coloured border with wavy edges (Otsuka, Kazuhisa, 2001).  

Subspecies and variation

 
No subspecies (Yata and Morishita, 1979).

Similar species

This species is similar to Ixias pyrene, but can be distinguished by the fact that this species is much larger and some differences in the black border on the wing (Yata and Morishita, 1979).
