External characteristics
Male
Forewings: The forewing upper side has an orange coloured marking, that reaches to the marginal band, and the outer half of the dorsum is pale yellow coloured (Yata and Morishita, 1979).
Female
The black coloured marginal band is larger and conspicuous (Yata and Morishita, 1979).
Subspecies and variation
No subspecies. Two female forms are known; the first form has a white ground-colour on the upper side wing surface and the subapical band is reddish orange; the second form has a greenish yellow ground-colour and the subapical band is reddish orange (Yata and Morishita, 1979).
