MORPHOLOGY


External characteristics


Male 

Forewings: The upper side of the wing surface is black with yellow basal area. The forewing has a more or less distinct white subapical stripe. The underside of the wing surface is black coloured. The colouration of the forewing is a bluish white, with more emphasis on white (Pequin, 2021).  Hindwings The underside of the hindwing has a basal area with a greenish yellow colouration, with a bluish white border which extends along the inner margin to the end of the submedian (Pequin, 2021).

Female  
The females generally have a different underside wing surface than the males, by being darker with broader margins on both wings (D'Abrera, 1982). In females, the proximal area of both wings is more extended, than in the males. The colouration of the forewing is black, with a bluish grey proximal area. The colouration of the hindwing is black, with a greenish yellow proximal area which can be bordered with a bluish grey colouration. The underside wing surface is as in the males (Pequin, 2021).  

Subspecies and variation

 
No subspecies (Pequin, 2021).

Similar species

Both males and females of Delias totila is similar to the female of Mynes katharina Ribbe (Nymphalidae), especially the yellow females for the male Delias totila (Pequin, 2021).
