MORPHOLOGY


External characteristics


Male 
Forewing length (mm): 63-65. Wingspan (mm): 112-118.
Forewings: Upperside black, some indistinct pale yellow powdering in subapical area; underside black, with broad band of dirty yellow to whitish-gray in submarginal area and, after vein 5 curving to costaHindwings Upperside yellow with black veins and black rounded marginal spots that are just conjoined along margin; underside similar.

Female 
Forewing length (mm):
 78-81.  Wingspan (mm):140-133.
Forewing, upperside whitish with a violet-brown tinge, in middle of internervular spaces concentration of brownish scales diffusely more intense, along outer margin and apex dark brown to black; underside similar. Hindwing, upperside largely black, yellow area in basal 1/3, intersected by black veins, angular yellow submarginal spots.  

Subspecies and variation

 
Only known from Sabah and Sarawak on Borneo; for both areas a separate subspecies has been recognised: ssp. andromache in N Borneo, and ssp. marapokensis in Sarawak.
