MORPHOLOGY


External characteristics


Male 
Forewing length (mm): 87-93. Wingspan (mm): 124-136.
Forewings: Upperside black with white or yellow stripes on both sides of the veins, particularly in submarginal and apical area; underside xxxxx. Hindwings Upperside yellow, black marginal spots confluent, forming a wavy marginal band.

Female 
Forewing length (mm):
 97-105.  Wingspan (mm):153-173.
Forewing, upperside pale brown or black brown, more or less developed grayish or brownish-red stripes on both sides of veins in submarginal and apical area. Hindwing, upperside black, yellow restricted to a smaller or larger central patch intersected by heavily black veins, small triangular yellow spots in the submarginal region.  

Subspecies and variation

 
Geographic variation in the extension of the yellow color and in the stripes along the veins. Two subspecies are recognised, ssp. miranda in Borneo, with whitish stripes on the forewing of the male and a small yellow area on the hindwing of the female; and ssp. neomiranda in Sumatra,with yellowish stripes on the forewing of the male and a larger yellow area on the hindwing of the female.
