MORPHOLOGY


External characteristics


Male 
Forewing length (mm): 82-85. Wingspan (mm): 128-133.
Forewings: Upperside black, weakly whitish along veins; underside forewing as upperside but whitish along veins much more prominent. Hindwings Upperside hindwing dark grayish with veins outlined in black; yellow area, so prominent in many other troides species, reduced to series of large yellow submarginal spots; underside hindwing as upperside but grayish area shining silvery white.

Female 
Forewing length (mm):
 87-90.  Wingspan (mm):145-162.
Forewing, upperside as in male, but whitish outlining of veins more prominent than in male, also present in cell; underside forewing blackish brown with small, pale, submarginal spots and an extra spot in space 2. Hindwing , upperside as in male, but yellow more extensive, almost reaching the cell and enclosing prominent median spots, yellow colour more whitish towards inner margin.  

Subspecies and variation

 
Two subspecies are recognised, differing only slightly.

Similar species

Unmistakable, the only Troides species with gray-white on the hindwing.
