External characteristics


Male 
Forewing length (mm): 18 - 21 (Yata, 1991).
Forewings: The upper side wing surface has a pale lemon yellow ground-colour. The is a black coloured border on the costa, on the distal edge and on the base. The discocellular spot is absent and the fringe is black. The underside wing surface is a somewhat paler ground-colour than the upper side. The subapical patch is well developed and sharply defined. The sex-brand is salmon pink and is long and broadly shaped (Yata, 1991). Hindwings The hindwing upper side has a broad black coloured distal border, which is zig-zag shaped and strongly projected along each vein. The fringe is black, but mixed with yellow. The hindwing underside has a series of submarginal spots, arranged in a zig-zag line. There is a discocellular spot, a circular subbasal spot, and the fringe is yellow. The basal spot lacks. The upper side is ultraviolet reflective (Yata, 1991).

Female 
Forewing length (mm):
 20 - 21 (Yata, 1991).  
The female has a paler colouration, more creamy-white. The forewing underside has a dark coloured apical patch, which is obliquely cut with its margin corresponding to the black border on the upper side wing surface. The hindwing upper side has a black border which is broad and inwardly serrated (Yata and Morishita, 1979).  

Subspecies and variation

 
No subspecies (Yata and Morishita, 1979).

Similar species

The male of this species has a ground-colour intermediate between Eurema ada vaga and Eurema andersoni udana (Yata and Morishita, 1979).
