External characteristics


Male 
Forewing length (mm): < 18 (Yata and Morishita, 1979). Wingspan (mm): 35 (DBpedia, n.d.).
These specimen have a diminutive size (D'Abrera, 1982).Forewings: The wing colouration is a instantly recognisable pale greenish tinted yellow (D'Abrera, 1982; Yata and Morishita, 1979), with a milky coloured tinge. The wings are rounded. The forewing upper side always has two cell spots. The forewing underside has a broad sex brand, which is spindle shaped (Yata and Morishita, 1979). Hindwings The hindwing termen do not have angulation. The hindwing upper side has a broady black border, which is never reduced to a series of spots. The hindwing underside has a yellow coloured, crescent shaped costal brand near the base (Yata and Morishita, 1979).

Female 
Forewing length (mm):
 13.5 - 21.5 (Yata, 1991).  
The upper side ground-colour is greenish milky, with a yellow coloured tinge (Yata and Morishita, 1979).  

Subspecies and variation

 
Four (Yata and Morishita, 1979) to six (D'Abrera, 1982) subspecies are described. The black border on the hindwing of ssp. iona is very narrow and the subapical spots on the forewing underside are well developed. Ssp. ada from Borneo is slightly larger and paler in ground-colour than the other subspecies (Yata and Morishita, 1979).

Similar species

This species is similar to Eurema lacteola and Eurema andersoni (Yata and Morishita, 1979).
