MORPHOLOGY


External characteristics


Male 
Wingspan (mm): 38 - 42 (DBpedia, n.d.).
Forewings: The upper side wing surface is white, with black colouration from apex to cell distad on the forewing. The underside of the wing surface is olive-black, somewhat purple-ish. There is on the underside of the forewing a pale yellow band, as well as four pale yellow submarginal spots (Pequin, 2021). Hindwings The hindwing has a very thin black distal border. The hindwing underside is has a slightly glossy olive-green glow. On the hindwing underside, there is a median band with a deeper yellow colour. Further, there are five submarginal scarlet spots (Pequin, 2021).

Female  
The females generally have a different underside wing surface than the males, by being darker with broader margins on both wings (D'Abrera, 1982). On the forewing, the black apical area is wider than that of males. On both wings are often white submarginal spots. The underside wing surface is similar in both sexes (Pequin, 2021).  

Subspecies and variation

 
Two subspecies are described (Pequin, 2021).

Similar species

This species is similar and closely related to Delias abrophora, but the latter one has a much reduced black submarginal band (Pequin, 2021).
