MORPHOLOGY


External characteristics


Male 
Wingspan (mm): 89 (Grose Smith And Kirby, 1892).
The upper side of the head and the legs are black coloured. The body is white with blue-ish white hairs (Grose Smith And Kirby, 1892).Forewings: The upper side wing surface is pure white coloured. The forewing upper side costa and upper branch of the subcostal nervure are narrow and black coloured. The forewing underside is white coloured and the apical third is black, which has five large white spots (Grose Smith And Kirby, 1892). Hindwings The hindwing underside has grey suffusion on the outside of the wing (Pequin, 2021) and a red submarginal band (Pequin, 2021; 777). The hindwing underside is black coloured and has a row of seven angulated scarlet spots (Grose Smith And Kirby, 1892).

Female  
The females generally have a different underside wing surface than the males, by being darker with broader margins on both wings (D'Abrera, 1982).  

Subspecies and variation

 
Three subspecies are described (Pequin, 2021).
