MORPHOLOGY


External characteristics


Male 
Wingspan (mm): 51 (Kirby and Bowdler Sharpe, 1897).
Forewings: The forewing upper side has a black-ish grey colouration (Pequin, 2021), with some white coloured subapical spots. The forewing underside has white coloured subapical spots, tinged with yellow (Kirby and Bowdler Sharpe, 1897). Hindwings The hindwing upper side is white coloured, with a black border. The hindwing underside is yellow coloured, with a narrow and incomplete black border, which is spotted with yellow (Kirby and Bowdler Sharpe, 1897).

Female  Wingspan (mm):51 (Kirby and Bowdler Sharpe, 1897).
The females generally have a different underside wing surface than the males, by being darker with broader margins on both wings (D'Abrera, 1982). The female upper side wing surface has a brown colouration (Pequin, 2021).  

Subspecies and variation
