External characteristics

Male

Forewings: The upper side wing surface is creamy-white coloured. The narrow black apical area on the forewing is sometimes white-dusted. On the forewing, there are three subapical white spots. The underside wing surface is fuscous-black coloured. The proximal half of the forewing is yellow, with the submedian area grey-white. There is a white discocellular spot and four small submarginal white spots on the underside of the forewing. The fringe of both wings is white (Pequin, 2021). Hindwings The hindwing has a shadowy grey-black coloured marginal border, from the anal angle to vein M2. The hindwing has a yellow costal margin, a large yellow median patch and the proximal area is dusted with yellow. There are six submarginal spots, of which two are yellow coloured, in a triangular shape (Pequin, 2021).

Female
The females generally have a different underside wing surface than the males, by being darker with broader margins on both wings (D'Abrera, 1982).

Subspecies and variation

Two subspecies are described (Pequin, 2021).
