External characteristics
Male
Wingspan (mm): 42 - 45 (DBpedia, n.d.).
Forewings: The forewing upper side has a white area, which does not extend beyon the end of the cell. The forewing underside has a white area, which sometimes reaches beyond the cell. There is a black coloured costal border and yellow coloured subapical spots (Pequin, 2021). Hindwings The hindwing upper side has a black coloured border between costa and vein Cu1, which has a blue-ish grey proximal scaling. The hindwing underside has a pale buff colouration and a black distal margin. The subbasal stripe is buff coloured. There is a red submarginal line, which is strongly black edged proximally and bordered with a silvery-white line. The inner margin to the first submedian has a deep yellow colouration (Pequin, 2021).
Female
The females generally have a different underside wing surface than the males, by being darker with broader margins on both wings (D'Abrera, 1982). The upper side wing surface has broader black areas in females on both wings. The forewing has a small, somewhat ovate, creamy-white patch and two white subapical dots. The hindwing has a grey colouration below the border (Pequin, 2021).
