External characteristics
Male
Wingspan (mm): 60 (Feltwell, 1993).
Forewings: The forewing has a black coloured submarginal band (Yata and Morishita, 1979). Hindwings The hindwing upper side has an entirely orange ground-colour (Yata and Morishita, 1979).
Female Wingspan (mm):60 (Feltwell, 1993).
The hindwing upper side has sometimes a yellow ground-colour in females (Yata and Morishita, 1979).
Subspecies and variation
Thirteen subspecies are described. The hindwing costa is darkened in subspecies from Philippines and Palawan. The hindwing costa is orange-yellow in Molucca subspecies-group (Yata and Morishita, 1979).
