External characteristics


Male 

Forewings: The forewing has a black coloured marginal border, with an clearly defined inner border (Yata and Morishita, 1979). 

Female  
The inner margin of the black border on the forewing is more zigzagged (Yata and Morishita, 1979).  

Subspecies and variation

 
Three subspecies are described (Yata and Morishita, 1979). The female of ssp. samanga, which is also the largest subspecies, has a greenish lemon yellow colouration on the upper side wing surface. The male of ssp. auriflua is usually tinged with orange colouration on the upper side wing surface (Yata and Morishita, 1979).

Similar species

The genitalia of both sexes of this species and Gandaca harina are considerably different. The forewing termen of this species are rounder than in Gandaca harina (Yata and Morishita, 1979).
