Delias jordani

MORPHOLOGY

External characteristics

Male
Wingspan (mm): 45 (DBpedia, n.d.).
Forewings: The forewing upper side has a white area. The forewing underside is brown-ish black coloured, with a proximal white coloured area. There are five apical spots which are grey-white coloured. There is sometimes a small white subcostal spot too. The fringe on the forewing is black and dotted with white at the folds (Pequin, 2021). Hindwings The hindwing upper side has a sharply defined black border. The hindwing underside has a fuscous-brown ground-colour and a white postdiscal band, which is sometimes broken. There is a small yellow coloured subbasal spot on the edge of the white area, and a small somewhat oblong yellow spot with a distal white edging in the cell near the base. Further, there is a row of submarginal yellow dots. The fringe on the hindwing is white mixed with black and nearly black at the veins (Pequin, 2021).

Female
The females generally have a different underside wing surface than the males, by being darker with broader margins on both wings (D'Abrera, 1982). The upper side of the wing surface is similar to that of the male, but is creamy-white coloured and with broader black areas. There are three or four small subapical spots. The underside of the wing surface is similar of that of males. The yellow markings in the hindwing are more orange-ish by females (Pequin, 2021).
