Delias heroni

MORPHOLOGY

External characteristics

Male
Wingspan (mm): 45 (DBpedia, n.d.).
Forewings: The upper side wing surface is white coloured, with a black distal half on the forewing. The forewing underside has a distal half smoky-black coloured and a distal half white coloured. There are three yellow subapical spots, followed by a small, broken, yellow submarginal line (Pequin, 2021). Hindwings There is a black border on the hindwing and it becomes a heavy line to the inner angle (Pequin, 2021). The hindwing underside is bronzy-brown coloured, with a yellow basal costal patch and a black edge on the distal side (Pequin, 2021).

Female
The females generally have a different underside wing surface than the males, by being darker with broader margins on both wings (D'Abrera, 1982). The upper side of the wing surface is creamy-white or tinged with yellow. The forewing has a black distal area, which is more extended than in the male. There are traces of two or three subapical yellow spots. The underside wing surface is similar as in males (Pequin, 2021).

Subspecies and variation

No subspecies (Pequin, 2021).

Similar species

Due to the large yellow subbasal spot on the hindwing underside, does this species resemble to Delias pratti (Pequin, 2021).
