Subspecies and variation
Nine subspecies are described. The males of ssp. aegis are similar to those of ssp. cynis and ssp. caepia, the white subapical streaks of the forewing underside is a variable feature throughout these three subspecies; the females of these three subspecies are hard to specify and differentiate from each other (D'Abrera, 1982).
