MORPHOLOGY

External characteristics

Forewing length (mm): 14-24.

General morphology:
Antennae longer than half costa of forewing, club slender and finely pointed apiculus of 11-14 segments. Forewing broad, termen almost straight, hind margin longer than termen, which is evenly rounded; radial vein in forewing abnormally angled at origin of vein R1, at which point the cell is much wider than usual; vein M3 much nearer to CuA1 than to M2. Hindwing termen very evenly curved, tornus slightly produced, inner margin not longer than costa; cell about half length of wing.

Wing coloration:

Upper side: Upper side forewing black with large central, white, hyaline band; in addition, there may be one or more tiny hyaline spots in the apical area. Upper side hindwing plain black. 

Underside: Underside forewing and hindwing as upper side but hindwing may have a purplish hue to some extent.

Secondary sexual characters:

 
No secondary sexual characters.  

Species

 
Eleven species, extending from Sri Lanka, India and Nepal to southern China, Hainan, Taiwan and through continental SE. Asia eastward to New Guinea and Australia. All species occurring in the area covered here.
