MORPHOLOGY


External characteristics


Male 
Forewing length (mm): 59-66. Wingspan (mm): 96-112.
Forewings: Upperside black, veins lined with whitish streaks from vein 2 to apex; underside similar, whitish lining more strongly developed, also in upper part of cellHindwings Upperside yellow with black veins and with black inner margin and interconnected black conical marginal markings, yellow in spaces 2-4 more or less dusted brown; underside similar, exceptionally there are rounded black spots in space 5 and 6.

Female 
Forewing length (mm):
 64-78.  Wingspan (mm):112-132.
Forewing, upperside as underside forewing of male; underside similar. Hindwing, upperside yellow to brownish yellow in basal half, crossed by black veins, outer half black with or without small submarginal markings; underside similar, the yellow color may extend a bit so that the black band tends to be broken into separate spots.  

Subspecies and variation

 
The species occurs all over the Philippines, but although the islands ensure many isolated populations, no geographic variation has been described.
