External characteristics


Male 

Forewings: The forewing upper side has a large discal marking that covers the whole wing, except for a marginal border and a dorsal stripe (Yata and Morishita, 1979). Hindwings The hindwing is creamy white coloured (Yata and Morishita, 1979).

Female  
The ground-colour is a yellowish white and there is an orange coloured subapical band (Yata and Morishita, 1979).  

Subspecies and variation

 
Two subspecies are described. Ssp. adamsi are very similar to the nominate subspecies, but the hindwing underside has a yellow suffusion at the costa, and the orange patch on the forewing underside is much reduced, not extending either to the base or as close to the margin (D'Abrera, 1982; Yata and Morishita, 1979).
