External characteristics


Male 
Forewing length (mm): 50-52. Wingspan (mm): 80-88.
Forewings: Upperside and underside forewing black with grayish internervular stripes, basal black area reaching to tornus. Hindwings Upperside and underside hindwing black with white area in spaces 2-4 and three to six red submarginal spots; tail relatively long, up to half as long as length of hindwing without tail.

 55.  Wingspan (mm):89.
As male, the forewing is more rounded.  

Subspecies and variation

 
Very little.

Similar species

The combination of the long tail, the completely black cell of the hindwing and the dark basal area of the forewing reaching the tornus usually identifies this species.
