MORPHOLOGY


External characteristics


Male 
Forewing length (mm): 50-61. Wingspan (mm): 82-103.
Forewings: Upperside and underside forewing with broadened grayish stripes along the veins as in other Losaria and Pachliopta species, but with blackened apex, a black band halfway across the wing and a black basal area stretching to the tornus Hindwings Upperside and underside hindwing black with two to four (rarely none) red or pink spots near tornus, separated by black veins.

Female 
Forewing length (mm):
 49-52.  Wingspan (mm):85-97.
Similar to male, but forewing more rounded.
 

Subspecies and variation

 
Main variation is in the number and extent of the red spots on the hindwing. Six subspecies have been distinguished.
