The females generally have a different underside wing surface than the males, by being darker with broader margins on both wings (D'Abrera, 1982).
Subspecies and variation
Three subspecies are described. Ssp bryophila differs from the nominate form by the amount of black markings on the upper side wing surface. Ssp. abmisibilensis has a golden yellow colouration on the forewing underside and the hindwing underside is brighter coloured (Pequin, 2021).
