External characteristics


Male 
Wingspan (mm): 70 - 85 (DBpedia, n.d.).
Forewings: The upper side wing surface is covered with blue-ish grey scale on the outer half of the cell (Yata and Morishita, 1979). There is a red patch on the upper side wing surface (Kirton, 2018). Hindwings The hindwing upper side has a red coloured basal area (Yata and Morishita, 1979).

Female  
The females generally have a different underside wing surface than the males, by being darker with broader margins on both wings (D'Abrera, 1982). The hindwing upper side has the cell traversed by a black band in the middle and is not covered in blue-ish grey scales (Yata and Morishita, 1979).  

Subspecies and variation

 
Six subspecies are described, of which two subspecies are found in West Kalimantan (Pequin, 2021).

Similar species

This species is similar to Delias acalis, but the red basal area is narrower (Yata and Morishita, 1979).
