MORPHOLOGY


External characteristics


Male 
Forewing length (mm): 23 (Joicey and Talbot, 1922).
 Hindwings The hindwing upper side has a broad black coloured marginal line. The hindwing underside has a red coloured subbasal stripe, which is distally shortened. The space between the red stripe and vein Sc + R1 is filled in by a white stripe. The outer edge of the red stripe is narrowly edged with black. The discal area of the wing within the postdiscal band is laved with straw-yellow (Joicey and Talbot, 1922).

Female  
The females generally have a different underside wing surface than the males, by being darker with broader margins on both wings (D'Abrera, 1982).  

Subspecies and variation

 
No subspecies (Pequin, 2021).
