MORPHOLOGY


External characteristics


Male 
Forewing length (mm): 33 - 37 (Otsuka, Kazuhisa, 2001) . Wingspan (mm): 80 (Feltwell, 1993).
Forewings: The forewing upper side has a blue-ish grey coloured band. The forewing underside band is white coloured (Pequin, 2021). The wings are charcoal black coloured (Otsuka, Kazuhisa, 2001).  Hindwings The hindwing has a large yellow coloured patch (Pequin, 2021). The hindwing is covered with grey coloured spots (Otsuka, Kazuhisa, 2001).

Female  Wingspan (mm):80 (Feltwell, 1993).
The females generally have a different underside wing surface than the males, by being darker with broader margins on both wings (D'Abrera, 1982). The forewing upper side has a white coloured band in females, instead of the blue-ish grey colour; the band on the forewing underside is white coloured in both sexes (Pequin, 2021).  

Subspecies and variation

 
Seven or eight subspecies are described; Delias of the World (Pequin, 2021) is uncertain about ssp. nova.

Similar species

This species is similar to Delias pastihoe (Yata and Morishita, 1979).
