MORPHOLOGY


External characteristics


Male 
Forewing length (mm): 48-51. Wingspan (mm): 71-79.
Forewings: Upperside black, pale bluish/greenish spots as follows: complete series of small but conspicuous submarginal spots, series of median spots from hind margin to near apex, lower spots largest and more or less confluent, filling less than 1/5 of width of wing along vein 1, narrow linear spots in cell and at end cell, basal-most one continued to hind margin; underside similar Hindwings Crenulate, no tail; upperside black with small but conspicuous submarginal spots, basal half largely whitish/ pale bluish, dark at base and an elongate spot at costa; underside dark brown, well developed submarginal spots and some irregular red median spots, also red spot halfway vein 8, white band from costa near wing base towards near tornus, separate white spot from costa near end of vein 7 to cell and just in cell.

Female

 54.  Wingspan (mm):80.
As male, but dark brown rather than black.  

Subspecies and variation

 
There is a slight variation in size and in the width and intensity of the color of the pale areas; two subspecies are recognized.

Similar species

G. meyeri is rather similar to G. eurypylus pamphylus with which it occurs in the same area , but in the latter the white band on the underside of the hindwing is continuous from costa near the end of vein 7 towards tornus.
