Delias fruhstorferi

MORPHOLOGY

External characteristics

Male
Wingspan (mm): 45 (DBpedia, n.d.).
Forewings: The costal border and distal area on the upper side of the forewing are brown-ish black. The colouration of the forewing is white with a dark basal area, and is slightly mixed with yellow (Pequin, 2021). Hindwings The hindwing has black marginal vein spots on veins Cu2 - M1, with a slight black dusting between them. Further, the hindwing has a broad white discal band, and there are six submarginal spots coloured white and tinged with yellow (Pequin, 2021).

Female
The females generally have a different underside wing surface than the males, by being darker with broader margins on both wings (D'Abrera, 1982). The upper side of the forewing is white. There is a white post cellular bar of three spots and there are five small submarginal spots. The hindwing has a broad black marginal border. Both the base of the forewing as the basal area of hindwing are dusted in black (Pequin, 2021).

Subspecies and variation

Two subspecies are described (Pequin, 2021).

Similar species

This species is very similar to Delias momea. The scent-scale of Delias fruhstorferi differs from other species in the groups nysa. The six submarginal spots are in Delias fruhstorferi bigger than in Delias nysa and Delias momea. Delias fruhstorferi has a white post cellular bar of three spots, which is absent in Delias momea and Delias nysa (Pequin, 2021).
