MORPHOLOGY


External characteristics


Male 
Forewing length (mm): 32 (Joicey and Noakes, 1915). Wingspan (mm): 76 (Grose Smith And Kirby, 1892).
Forewings: The upper side wing surface is entirely white coloured, there are no traces of black apical markings (Pequin, 2021). The forewing is on both sides white coloured. There is on the forewing underside apex a dark yellow spot (Joicey and Noakes, 1915). Hindwings The hindwing lacks the red submarginal line (Pequin, 2021). The hindwing is black coloured, with a red costal streak edged with black at the margin (Joicey and Noakes, 1915).

Female 
Forewing length (mm):
 32 (Joicey and Noakes, 1915).  
The females generally have a different underside wing surface than the males, by being darker with broader margins on both wings (D'Abrera, 1982). The upper side wing surface is grey-black coloured. The underside wing surface is similar to that of the male, but the forewing has increased apical black (Joicey and Noakes, 1915).  

Subspecies and variation

 
Two subspecies are described (Pequin, 2021).
