External characteristics


Male 
Wingspan (mm): 80 - 90 (DBpedia, n.d.) .
Forewings: On both wingsurfaces, are the yellow markings missing, the underside wing surface is marked with black and larger white spots. The plume scale is short (Yata and Morishita, 1979). Hindwings The hindwing underside has the basal red coloured area reduced to a spot (Yata and Morishita, 1979).

Female  
The females generally have a different underside wing surface than the males, by being darker with broader margins on both wings (D'Abrera, 1982). The ground-colour is muddy ochreous. The cell end spot is united with the submarginal spot on the forewing upper side (Yata and Morishita, 1979).
