External characteristics
Male
Wingspan (mm): 60 - 75 (Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, 2022).
Hindwings The hindwing upper side has a large red coloured area around the base, which extends to below the cell (Pequin, 2021).
Female
The females generally have a different underside wing surface than the males, by being darker with broader margins on both wings (D'Abrera, 1982).
Subspecies and variation
Six subspecies are described, of which three subspecies are found in Thailand and two are found in India (Pequin, 2021).
